The Culture, Sports, and Tourism Bureau (CSTB) of Hong Kong has held a strategic meeting to coordinate preparations ahead of the Chinese New Year Golden Week, an eight-day celebration that starts on Jan. 28 and ends on Feb. 4. The meeting, which was chaired by secretary for culture, sports, and tourism Rosanna Law, attracted representatives from key government departments, the tourism industry, and major attractions to ensure the city is ready to welcome a surge in visitors.

Highlights of the Meeting

“Various districts in the city will host a variety of festive events to create a rich New Year ambience for visitors,” Law said, adding that the Chinese New Year Golden Week is a peak travel period, promising a vibrant festive atmosphere. The event will feature both traditional celebrations and modern attractions, allowing all travelers to enjoy a dynamic experience.

A key focus of the meeting was the resumption and expansion of the multiple-entry Individual Visit Scheme for Shenzhen residents, which is likely to increase the number of visitors substantially. “We estimate a notable increase in visitor arrivals during the Chinese New Year Golden Week. We encourage the trade to grasp the opportunities and be flexible in providing more high-quality and innovative experiences to visitors to attract them to stay overnight to enjoy Hong Kong's unique festive atmosphere,” she added, expressing optimism about the opportunities this presents for the tourism sector.

Festival arrangements will be overseen by the interdepartmental working group, chaired by the chief secretary for administration. Stakeholders are committed to maintaining close communication to make sure that managing the influx of visitors is done in the best way possible so everyone can have a smooth and enjoyable experience.

Why This Matters for U.S. Tourists

For U.S. tourists, this is an ideal time to experience one of Asia’s most famous celebrations in its glory. During the Chinese New Year Golden Week, Hong Kong will play host to a cultural extravaganza, where visitors can witness traditional lion dances, parades, and temple fairs as well as modern events that showcase the city’s dynamic culture. Special activities at major tourist sites, such as the West Kowloon Cultural District, will feature unique photo opportunities and cultural insights. Furthermore, enhanced coordination between government departments ensures smooth transport and logistics, even during this high-traffic period, making travel convenient and enjoyable.

The city is ready to welcome international travelers, she said, adding, “Hong Kong’s festive atmosphere, combined with its world-class attractions, makes it a must-visit destination during this time of year.”

Plan Ahead for the Golden Week

U.S. tourists are encouraged to plan ahead and book their accommodations and tickets early, as demand is expected to be high. During this festive period, there is nowhere better to be than Hong Kong, with rich traditions, dazzling cityscapes, and world-class hospitality that define the city.

As Hong Kong opens its doors to a wave of visitors, it is a great time for U.S. travelers to explore the city’s rich culture and immerse themselves in the magic of the Chinese New Year celebrations.
