Frontier and Iberia Expand U.S. Travel Options with New Routes

U.S. travelers will soon have even more flight options as Frontier Airlines and Iberia announce new routes, expanding both domestic and international travel opportunities. Whether flying within the U.S. or heading to Europe, these additions provide greater convenience, affordability, and direct access to key destinations.

Frontier Airlines Adds Three New Nonstop Routes from San Diego

For those traveling within the United States, Frontier Airlines is expanding its route network from San Diego International Airport (SAN). Starting in June 2025, the airline will launch nonstop flights to Chicago, Austin, and Salt Lake City, making it easier for Southern California travelers to reach these destinations without the hassle of layovers.

Frontier’s new route to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) begins on June 12 with daily service, providing a direct link to one of the country’s busiest airports. On June 13, the airline will add flights to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC), operating four and three times per week, respectively.

To celebrate the expansion, Frontier is offering introductory fares as low as $39, reinforcing its reputation as one of the most budget-friendly airlines in the U.S.

“We are thrilled to announce these three additional routes as we continue to grow our presence in San Diego,” said Josh Flyr, Vice President of Network and Operations Design at Frontier Airlines. “With Frontier’s trademark low fares available on eight nonstop routes from SAN, now is a better time than ever for consumers in Southern California to make Frontier their airline of choice.”

As part of its broader service improvements, Frontier is also introducing UpFront Plus seating, which offers extra space and a guaranteed empty middle seat. Later in 2025, the airline will debut free unlimited companion travel for frequent flyers and launch First Class seating, bringing premium comfort at an affordable price.

Exploring Frontier’s New Destinations

Frontier’s new routes connect travelers to some of the most dynamic cities in the U.S., each offering a unique mix of culture, entertainment, and business opportunities.

Chicago is a world-class city known for its architecture, deep-dish pizza, and thriving arts scene. Visitors can take in the skyline from Willis Tower’s Skydeck, catch a show at The Second City, or stroll through Millennium Park to see the iconic "Bean" sculpture. Food lovers can’t leave without trying the city’s famous deep-dish pizza at spots like Lou Malnati’s or Giordano’s.

Austin, the "Live Music Capital of the World," is a hub for creativity and culture. A night out in the city isn’t complete without stopping by the bars and music venues on Sixth Street, where local and international artists perform nightly. Austin is also a top destination for foodies, with barbecue joints like Franklin Barbecue serving up legendary brisket that’s worth the wait.

Salt Lake City offers a mix of urban and outdoor adventures. In the heart of downtown, visitors can explore Temple Square, home to historic landmarks and gardens. Just outside the city, nature lovers can take a scenic drive to the Bonneville Salt Flats, where the otherworldly landscape attracts photographers and speed enthusiasts alike. In winter, ski resorts like Snowbird and Park City provide some of the best slopes in the country.

Iberia Introduces Nonstop Flights from Madrid to Orlando

While Frontier expands domestic options, international travelers will also benefit from Iberia’s new nonstop flight from Madrid to Orlando, set to launch on Oct. 26, 2025.

The Spanish airline will operate four weekly flights using Airbus A330 aircraft, adding more than 46,000 seats to the route during the winter season. The new service is expected to boost tourism between Spain and Central Florida, a region known for its world-famous attractions.

Orlando, home to Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, and Port Canaveral, is one of the most visited cities in the U.S., drawing millions of tourists every year. The route will also serve business travelers attending events at the Orange County Convention Center, one of the largest convention venues in the country.

"We believe Orlando can become the star destination for the upcoming Christmas season," said María Jesús López Solás, Iberia’s Director of Sales, Customers, Network Development, and Alliances.

The new route provides a direct alternative for travelers who previously had to connect through Miami, saving time and reducing travel hassles. Visitors flying in from Madrid will now have easier access to Central Florida’s theme parks, beaches, and business centers.

What This Means for U.S. Travelers

With these new routes, Frontier and Iberia are making travel easier, more affordable, and more connected than ever before. Whether you’re planning a domestic getaway or an international trip, these nonstop flights provide more options to explore top destinations with less hassle.

For those looking to take advantage of these new flights, here are a few travel tips:

  • Book Your Flights Early: Book early to lock in the lowest fares, especially for Frontier’s introductory promotions.
  • Check Baggage Policies: Frontier’s low base fares don’t include carry-ons or checked luggage, so budget accordingly.
  • Use Frequent Flyer Programs: Both Frontier Miles and Iberia Plus offer rewards that can be redeemed for upgrades and free flights.
  • Plan Around Peak Seasons: Chicago is best in late spring and early fall, Austin’s festival season peaks in March, and Salt Lake City offers incredible skiing in the winter.
  • Stay Near International Drive: For Orlando travelers, consider staying near International Drive, which provides easy access to theme parks and nightlife while offering more budget-friendly lodging options than on-site resorts.

With these new additions, getting to your next destination—whether it’s the heart of Texas, the snowy peaks of Utah, or the excitement of Disney World—just got easier.
